We work intentionally to create a third space where everyone’s voice is valued. A "third space" is a term coined by sociologist Ray Oldenburg to describe community spaces separate from home (the "first space") and work/school (the "second space"). At The Wesley House we provide spaces to study, play games, enjoy a coffee, have a meal and in general just be.
We also work from an understanding of brave space, where people are encouraged to be brave in their sharing, and recognizing that in doing the work of community building occasionally we disagree. Disagreeing, or having our feelings hurt isn’t a deal breaker ever. We work intentionally to listen deeply and to assume that everyone present is open to hearing viewpoints that may at time challenge them without an expectation that we all need to think and believe the same.

Edge Community is a ministry partner of the Wesley Campus Ministry. We share a common gathering space, The Wesley House at 2717 Clifton Ave., and we also share some the the financial costs of running the Community. Examples include utilities, staff salaries, and really fun stuff like cleaning supplies and toilet paper.
We also collaborate for some of our events including fall retreats, community service project and social justice learning opportunities.
